The JBL GH total hardness test is An easy-to-use rapid test to determine total hardness in fresh water.

Depending on the origin and composition of the subsoil, Water may contain different amounts of alkaline earth salts . Normally it is of calcium and magnesium salts. According to the definition, it is called total hardness to the sum of calcium and magnesium ions in water. Most fish and plants can be maintained without problems with a total hardness of between 8 and 20 °d. However, it is advisable to take appropriate measures to reduce the total hardness if the values are too high. Low total hardness values can often be measured in garden ponds due to precipitation diluting the water.

Instructions for use and characteristics

• Recommended level in fresh water: 8-20 °dGH
• 1 drop = 1 °dGH (GTH).
• The color changes from red to green.
• A higher total hardness in the aquarium compared to that of tap water suggests that the water was replenished rather than renewed.
